Wood Burning Stove

Our wood-burning stove is as warming as it is romantic.

During our tour, we acquaint guests with the use of our wood-burning stove. Watch the video above and read the instructions below. If you have any questions, please call us at the number listed in the house manual. The Vermont Soapstone Wood Burning Stove is 100% safe to use while you sleep or when you leave for the day. These stoves are meant to stay on 24/7, and many people use them as their sole source of heat. We encourage our guests to enjoy the warmth and the ambiance that these stoves create. We also have seven thermostats located throughout the house.

NOTES

  • Hardwood for the wood-burning stove has been made available for your use. The hardwood is located in the entrance way and under the carport on the wall against the house.
  • Nothing other than hardwood, twigs, and uncoated paper can be used in the stove.
  • Only use the left-hand door on the stove for loading and lighting.
  • Never leave the front or side door open during use. Embers can shoot out.
  • Do not place anything on the stove.
  • Children should not be allowed close to the stove.
  • Never use any accelerant in the stove.
  • Do not use Duraflame or similar type logs in the stove.
  • The amount of air let in determines how fast the wood burns. The stove may need to be fed every two to three hours.
  • Ultimately, you want a good base of hot coals that will keep producing a lot of heat.

AT NIGHT

  • Close and secure all doors, including the ash door at the bottom.
  • Use the air control located on the front, bottom left-hand side to reduce the amount of air. This will allow the embers to burn more slowly and produce heat.
  • Make sure the water bear at the top of the stove is filled. This will replace the humidity that the hot flames remove from the air. The humidity keeps the home warmer.

A WOOD BURNING STOVE GETS EXTREMELY HOT.
​WHEN LIT, DO NOT TOUCH ANY PART OF THE STOVE OTHER THAN THE WOOD HANDLES.

Gas Grills

During our tour, we acquaint guests with the use of our two gas grills. Our tanks are new and up to code. ​ Below are instructions for use.

LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS – Never lean over the grill when igniting

DYNA-GLO

  1. Check that all the knobs are in the off position
  2. Open the valve of the propane tank located under the grill
  3. Open the lid
  4. Depress and turn the control knob counter-clockwise from the off position past the
    IGNITE position to the HIGH position. (You will hear a click sound of the ignitor as you turn the knob)
  5. If the grill does not ignite, repeat number 4.

NEXGRILL

  1. Open the valve of the propane tank located under the grill
  2. Open the lid
  3. Turn the control knobs to HIGH
  4. Depress the IGNITE button located on the left-hand side of the control panel. (You will hear a repeated clicking sound of the ignitor)
  5. If the grill does not ignite, repeat number 4.

TROUBLESHOOTING

IF THE GRILL STILL DOES NOT LIGHT?

  1. Check the gas gauge on the Propane tank underneath the grill. Make sure the gas is turned ON and the gauge reading is NOT in the RED area. Although we check the tanks before each guest, if the gauge is in the RED, a full spare tank is located in the closet behind the red door.

To install a spare tank: (Note: The tank can be heavy.)

  1. Loosen the black fitting that connects the gauge to the propane tank
  2. Remove the empty tank and place it in the closet.
  3. Place the new tank under the grill with the bottom of the tank fitting into the hole. Make sure the gas fitting on the tank faces out toward the gas gauge.
  4. Tighten the black fitting onto the tank
  5. Use the lighting instructions above

IF THE GRILL IGNITES, THE GAS IS ON HIGH BUT THE FLAMES ARE LOW?

This is caused by a gas lock and is simple to correct.

  1. Turn off grill the knob located at the top of propane tank
  2. Loosen the black fitting that connects the gauge to the tank.
  3. You will hear a slight release of propane
  4. Tighten the fitting
  5. Relight the grill using the instructions above

STILL HAVING TROUBLE?

Our tanks are new and up to code. Should you run out of propane, please go to BJ’s (a mile away) to fill the propane tank. Please do NOT go to Home Depot or Walmart, as they don’t fill our tanks; they only replace them with old, used tanks.

Pellet Stove

Our pellet stove helps keep our event room toasty and adds a wonderful ambience.  During your tour, we acquaint our guests with using the pellet stove. ​The Pellet Stove is 100% safe to use while you are sleeping or if you leave for the day. These stoves are meant to stay on 24/7, and many people use them as their sole source of heat. We encourage our guests to enjoy the warmth and the ambiance that these stoves create. We also have seven thermostats located throughout the house.

LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Fill the hopper with pellets.
  2. Make sure all doors are closed and the hopper cover is completely closed. If the hopper cover is not closed, the stove will not start.
  3. Locate the control dial on the right side of the stove
  4. There should be a GREEN light (If no light or a red light, see below)
  5. Turn the control dial all the way to the left, then all the way to the right, left to your desired level of heat
    NOTE: You should hear the fan, then, in a minute or two, the clinking of pellets dropping into the stove. It takes a few minutes to light.
  6. You should see a small flame start in the hopper inside the stove

IF THERE IS NO LIGHT BY THE CONTROL DIAL

  1. Check that the stove is plugged into the wall
  2. Check the Stove switch is ON. The switch is marked and located on the wall near the stairs
  3. Follow the lighting instructions above

IF THERE IS A RED BLINKING LIGHT BY THE CONTROL DIAL

  1. Make sure the hopper door is closed
  2. Reset the stove by turning off the Stove switch marked and located on the wall near the stairs
  3. Follow the lighting instructions above

IF THE STOVE STILL DOES NOT LIGHT

  1. Open the front of the stove and look at the small hopper to see if it is filled with unburned pellets or ash. We clean the hopper before your stay however, if used during your stay in the unlikely event that the hopper becomes clogged with ash or unburned pellets, it will need to be cleaned before the stove can ignite again.
  2. Contact us at the numbers listed in the house manual for arrangements to clean or instructions.

THE OUTSIDE OF THE PELLET STOVE CAN BECOME VERY HOT. DO NOT TOUCH ANY METAL PARTS WHEN THE STOVE IS RUNNING

NOTES

  • The stove can hold approximately one 40 lb. bag of hardwood pellets
  • Depending on the setting, one bag of pellets can last 6 hours or more
  • You can add more pellets to the top hopper while the stove is running
  • Make sure to keep all doors closed while operating
  • It is perfectly safe to run the stove overnight

Locking the Glass Entrance Door

Our glass Forever Door features a very secure locking system. However, it does not lock like regular doors.

To lock the door from the inside

  1. Ensure the door is closed
  2. Pull the handle up towards the ceiling
  3. Turn the locking bolt until the lock engages

To lock the door from the outside with a key

  1. Pull the handle up towards the roof
  2. Turn the key until the lock engages
  3. Place the key in the lock-box located on the double doors to the left of the entrance.

Your host has provided a code for your stay.

Hot Tub

Our Hot Tub is available year-round for our guests’ enjoyment. We clean and treat the Hot Tub before every guest; however, the guest must treat it after each use. This ensures that our Hot Tub remains clean and enjoyable.

To treat the Hot Tub after use

  1. Start the pumps so the water is flowing
  2. Sprinkle a teaspoon of the chemistry provided into the water for every person who has used the Hot Tub.
  3. Let the pumps run for 2 minutes
  4. Turn pumps off and ensure lights are off
  5. Gently replace the cover

NOTES:

  • Your host has provided a packet of chemistry located on the cart by the closet with the red door.
  • It does not take very much chemistry to clean the water. Do not over-treat. A sign of over-treatment is a large amount of foam forming on the water’s surface. (a little foam is OK)
  • The Hot Tub is set at 104°F. Feel free to lower it; however, please raise it again after use.

WARNINGS:

  • If you feel faint or light-headed, exit the Hot Tub immediately and cool off
  • It is not recommended for any person to be in a Hot Tub alone
  • Small children who can not stand with their heads completely above the water level should not be allowed in the Hot Tub without a parent
  • Kids should never be left unattended
  • People with open sores or cuts should not be in the Hot Tub
  • The use of the Hot Tub is not recommended for people under the influence of alcohol and drugs
  • No Glass is permitted in or around the Hot Tub or pool area
  • Please exit the Hot Tub if you hear thunder or see lightning
